FIFTH GRADE

Betsy Holloway, B.S.
I graduated from West Virginia University with an Elementary Education degree. I have been teaching for 19 years and have had the opportunity to teach in Virginia, New Jersey and in South Carolina. My experiences include teaching fifth, third and second grades, kindergarten and pre-school 4’s. Through my experiences, I have found that children learn best when they are held accountable, respected, nurtured and provided many different ways in which to learn concepts. Students should be given the opportunity to learn by doing and be provided the opportunity to take ownership of their learning experiences and of course, it should be FUN!  I am so excited to continue teaching at Riverview and the wonderful opportunities this school year is going to offer. See you in August!

Amy Sumner, M.Ed., B.A.
After earning my Elementary Education degree from Appalachian State University, I moved to Charlotte, N.C. and had the opportunity to begin my teaching career at Thomasboro Elementary School.  While there, I taught inner city kindergarten children who were at risk due to many factors. After three years at Thomasboro, I met and married my husband, Hall, and we moved to Beaufort. I taught at Broad River Elementary for three more before taking a hiatus to raise our three wonderful children. During my time away, I was able to keep my hands in education while serving part-time at both Mossy Oaks Elementary School and Sea Island Presbyterian Day School.  Last year I had the opportunity to get back in the classroom and had a wonderful time teaching 5th grade! I look forward to another fantastic year!
