How to Apply

The application period for new students is January 1 – 31 ​each year for the following school year.

Applications are accepted starting 12:00 a.m. on January 1. Any applications received BEFORE 12:00 am on January 1 will be considered​ invalid for the following school year. ​Any application received after January 31st at 4:30 p.m. will not be eligible to participate in any ensuing lottery, but will be added to the wait list below lottery participants.

Riverview accepts applications for Kindergarten – 6th Grade. Riverview no longer enrolls new students for 7th & 8th grade so new student applications for these grades are not available.

Available seats are filled by public lottery and all other applicants are ​added to the wait list in the order drawn in the lottery. Any application received after January 31st at 4:30 p.m. will not be eligible to participate in any ensuing lottery, but will be added to the wait list below lottery participants.

We are hosting an Open House on Thursday, January 18th at 5:30 p.m.
Tours of the school are available at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesdays in January (Starting January 10th). No appointment required.

At Riverview Charter School, students are receiving a high quality, well rounded education. Using hands-on learning and teaching the “whole child”, they are learning much more than reading, writing and arithmetic. Riverview is a public school funded by Beaufort County resident tax dollars. Any student residing in Beaufort County School District is eligible to attend, there is NO TUITION.

Riverview admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the School. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in the administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, and athletic and other school-administered programs.

​Current Riverview students, the siblings of current Riverview students, the children of Riverview faculty and staff, and the children of Riverview’s Charter Committee members have “priority” in admissions and are not part of the lottery process in accordance with the SC Charter Schools Act (1996).


Enrollment Policies

The student should be five (5) years of age on or before September first of the school year of enrollment or has substantially initiated a public school kindergarten program in another state that has a different age requirement than South Carolina, pursuant to Section 59-63-20(3) of the SC Code of Laws. A copy of your child’s birth certificate must be attached as evidence hereof.

The student should be six (6) years of age on or before September first of the school year of enrollment or has substantially initiated a public school first grade program in another state that has a different age requirement than South Carolina or has attended a public school kindergarten program for one full school year, pursuant to Section 59-63-20(4) of the SC Code of Laws. A copy of my child’s birth certificate is attached as evidence hereof.

When completing the enrollment paperwork, evidence of residency in Beaufort County (dated within 60 days of enrollment date) must be provided to the school: rental or lease agreement or proof of home ownership such as purchase agreement, property tax or mortgage, bill of sale, property title, current utility, cable, water or electric bill for a residence in Beaufort County. (Note: these documents must bear the name of the signature of the affidavit provided in the enrollment paperwork.  Proof of residency required each year as part of re-enrollment process.

Parental permission is no longer required when authorized school personnel request records. (Family Education Act, Final Rule on Education Records. Federal Registration, June 17, 1976, Vol. 41 No. 118 Page 24673).  It states that the school officials including teachers within the educational institutions and officials of other school systems in which the student may intend to enroll, may receive school records without written consent for such release.

Open Enrollment is held in January of each year. In order to apply, you must complete and return our Application for Enrollment between January 1 and January 31 each year. If more applications are received than seats are available, the School must conduct a grade level lottery to determine enrollment in accordance with the SC Charter School Act (1996). If a seat is relinquished, the first student on the wait list for that particular grade level will be offered the available seat.
