Mrs. Freeman's Technology Classes
This year, I'll be teaching first and second grade classes as well as one section of 7/8th grade elective class. In first and second grade we will be focusing on building upon technology skills as we integrate with their classroom curriculum. Projects will be a part of first grade's Personal Identity Unit and second grade's Body System Unit. Be on the lookout for these projects on Portfolio Night!
My 7/8th grade elective class is titled Computer Club. We will be focusing on skills such as coding and understanding how a computer works. We even helped Mr. McGuire replace hard drives in older MacBook Pros with Solid State Drives! The kids really enjoyed gaining first hand experience but we made them promise NOT to open up any computers at home! :)
MR GOOD'S TECH CLASSES
This year I am teaching 3rd-6th and one group of 7th/8th grades.
Third grade is going to begin focusing on 'proper' keyboarding techniques to learn proper hand placement and key location. We will continue to build our ability to use and integrate different apps to create authentic documents. When we have time we are challenging our critical thinking/problem solving brains as well, "solving"/"playing" so great challenges on engineering.com. We will also begin to explore some coding on code.org as the year progresses.
Fourth, Fifth are working on a program from Google...CS First. It is a free Computer Science program that focuses on various coding tasks built around a theme. It has been cool seeing the kids create code on Scratch.com to manipulate art in 5th and storytelling in 4th. Sixth graders are also coding using Swift Playgrounds on their iPads. We are going through all the parts of actually using java script to write 'real' code. I am excited by what they are able to accomplish already and can't wait to see what some will create on their own.
7th/8th Grade Digital Media group is exploring how to create RCS morning news on Macs/iPads. Right now they are just using Photo Booth and iMovie to create their finished products. We are going to get into/explore some other programs that will allow us to incorporate the use of a green screen and (fingers crossed) stream within the school. All exciting stuff....check out what they have been able to create so far :
