Poetry Slam After observing transformation within poems such as "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost, our 4th graders created their own poetry and collected mentor poems for personal poetry anthologies, with the common theme, "Transformation." The students celebrated their learning with a poetry slam party where they presented poems they had memorized and shared their anthologies. Thank you to our volunteers and parent donations!
Fourth graders had the opportunity to observe the conflict and cooperation of wartime, as well as the way battle tactics have transformed over the years at Legare Farms on John's Island. Students had fun observing various reenactments during the Civil and Revolutionary war period. Students viewed how cannons were shot and other rifles were fired during that time. Students saw how food was eaten and stored on the battle field and how illness and wounds were treated.
After creating solar panels to observe how the Sun's energy transforms, students wrote opinion pieces about whether Riverview should or should not have solar panels. In a later lesson, students used their learning of the transformation of weather patterns to analyze "mystery" temperature graphs created by their classmates.
