Our trip to Bee City in Cottageville, SC was Buzzing with excitement. From Alpacas to bees and capybaras to zebras; we had a monumental adventure! We began our visit learning about the active hives on site. The queen and workers of each hive are very busy all the time. Girl Power! The drones, not so much! We learned that the drones get kicked out of the hive after less than a season, due to lack of contribution to hive. Bees are simply amazing and we need to do what we can to protect them so that they can keep doing their amazing work. Did you taste the delectable sweetness we brought back? In the zoo enclosure, we got to feed the large animals-cows, deer, donkey, and alpacas. Then we got to interact, play with and feed the monkeys, bunnies and lemurs. Many of us were enthralled by the visit inside the aviary. The parakeets and cockateels covered our arms and nibbled our fingers. Thank you, thank you to our parent volunteers who made the day possible!
