Energy

Rolling Down Lab
Fourth grade scientists participated in a "Rolling Down Lab," in which they investigated the transformation of potential energy into kinetic energy.  They gained an enduring understanding of the fact that energy cannot be created or destroyed but can change form.
Solar Oven Lab
Our student engineers have learned about how light energy works with translucent, transparent, and opaque materials and how light energy transforms into heat energy. We used this knowledge to develop our own solar ovens and experimented with what sorts of materials and design most efficently cooks a hotdog or a marshmallow. Try your own cookouts at home using these methods!
Math
Fourth graders were modeling decimals in the tenths and hundredths place.  They switched between word form, fraction form, and decimal form.  In rolling dice place value students were trying to make a larger decimal than their partner.  Students then ordered decimals from least to greatest using place value understanding.
Colonial Day
Our fourth grade colonists had a hands-on opportunity to discover the energy it took to survive in Colonial America.  They integrated their core values of perserverance, cooperation, and stewardship to working hard and have fun to create colonial gifts for the holidays.
