Kindergarten Team

Stella Gaylets, B.S.
In 2016 I graduated from the University of North Carolina Wilmington with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education of Young Children. After graduating I moved to Bluffton to be closer to family, and fell in love with Beaufort’s small town coastal feel. I taught in a preschool classroom for two years before moving up to kindergarten at Riverview. I believe in teaching the whole child through hands on learning experiences. I understand the importance in differentiating instruction based on children’s needs, interests, and learning styles. I truly enjoy helping children build their social skills through meaningful instruction, play, and interactions with students and teachers. I live in Beaufort with my husband, and two dogs. We love going to the beach, visiting family, and working on never ending house projects. I am grateful to be a part of Riverview’s team and look forward to building new relationships with students and families.

I graduated in 2007 from The Ohio State University with a Masters Degree in Elementary Education and a Bachelors Degree in Human Ecology. After graduating I taught at a private school in Dublin, OH for two years before moving to SC to put down roots. I have had experience working with children in a variety of settings for the past 10 years including a special needs classroom, an urban classroom, a public school, a private school, a lab school, and an alternative school. I have learned a lot from all of these experiences which has strongly impacted my teaching. My teaching philosophy is largely rooted in social constructivism and I believe strongly in teaching to the whole child, differentiated instruction, hands on learning, individualized teaching and most importantly caring, comfort and passion within a classroom. I have a wonderful and supportive husband who supports me when I work late and puts up with all of my classroom "projects" and 2 dogs and 2 cats. I moved to Beaufort from Ohio in order to take advantage of the wonderful opportunity to become part of the Riverview family when it first opened and have been loving every minute!

In 2005 I graduated Cum Laude from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor’s Degree in studio art with an emphasis in graphic design. I then went to graduate school and received a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of South Carolina. After teaching first grade for five years in Columbia, South Carolina, I was thrilled to move back to Beaufort where I grew up, and be able to continue doing what I love: teaching young children. Teaching at Riverview is especially exciting to me because my philosophy of teaching is a perfect match with Riverview’s. I believe that experiential learning is the most effective way for children to learn. While providing these learning experiences, it is also important to remember to teach the whole child. It’s imperative to know each student’s learning style and personality, and to provide differentiated instruction so that each student is successful. In the classroom my goal is to integrate not only subject matter but also to build social skills and good character traits. I frequently incorporate music and art in the classroom. I love to play the guitar and sing with my students, as well as use my background in art to instill creativity. Learning should be fun, and I want students to realize the joy and satisfaction of learning so that they will become life-long learners! After teaching first graders for the last four years here at Riverview, I’m very excited to now be teaching kindergarten!

I am dedicated to working in an environment that values educating the whole child through meaningful learning experiences. I graduated from the University of South Carolina Beaufort in December 2004 with a degree in Early Childhood Education. I have my Master’s degree from Concordia University in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Early Childhood Education. I have taught pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, and K/1 multiage for the past ten years. I am passionate about an innovative learning environment, meaningful lessons, and creating a hands on learning community. I truly enjoy working with children, educators, and families to inspire and support innovative learning. I aspire to make a difference in education and my community. I believe every learner deserves a dimensional education, including assured self-concept, positive motivation, good peer relationships, a desire to learn, as well as fundamental knowledge of reading, writing, and math. Outside of school my husband and I stay very busy with our two young sons. You can often find us fishing, boating, or soaking up our beautiful community in some form.
