Mrs. Dalton's Third Grade Class
Actions Have Consequences
What causes war and what are the consequences?
How is our planet evolving?
In Science, we have explored the Earth and the Solar System. The rock cycle is a basic concept in geology that describes the transitions through the three main rock types: sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous. We watched videos, then did our very own drawings to show the cycle and put together layers of the Earth to discover the different parts. We learned many interesting facts about the planets and made model planets to show how they compare by size and in relation to their distance from the sun.
In the pictures below students are:
-Making play dough models of the planets. They had to measure the diameter of the planet (according to a chart) in centimeters to show the difference in sizes of each planet. This tied in great with our ELA lesson of compare and contrast!
-Completing a Space Scoot where they walk around the room answering questions about space and comparing their answers with their classmates.
-Students created models of volcanoes and used vinegar and baking soda to help their volcano erupt. They also used a balloon, water bottle, vinegar and baking soda to make the balloon expand with air; making the Grinch's heart bigger during the holiday season. Their reaction during these experiments was priceless!
Home-made Present Holiday Gift Exchange! Each student had to bring in a wrapped gift made from their heart. It was a great lesson about being more happy with giving then receiving. The students were so excited to have their classmates open the present they made.
Buddies and Cappa
We love our 6th grade buddies. Every Wednesday we meet with our buddies and complete an activity. In the pictures below, our buddies are reading their narrative writing to us and then we read our OREO writing to them. In the last set of pictures we are making Capa blankets to donate. We love these special times together.
GA GA BALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our PTO donated a Ga Ga Pit and it has been fantastic! Students are able to play during recess and our 3rd grade class has a tournament every Friday for extra recess! It has been a blast!
In the pictures below students are completing projects on Antebellum South Carolina. Students were given two projects to choose from. Here are some samples of their work!
