ELA This week we continue to work in our Book Clubs and students have started story boards to explore the story's Exposition, Rising Action, Climax, Falling Action, and Conclusion. This analysis will allow us to dig deeper into our stories as they unfold. Students are expected to continue their IXL activities each week and currently are working to reinforce Figurative Language and Conjunctions.
SOCIAL STUDIES We continue to learn and grow in history, specifically as we have move through Ancient Asian Cultures and Religion. Students have worked on analyzing Judaism, Christianity and Islam to discover the foundations and ideologies, founders, geographical locations of origin and have been asked to compare and contrast the similarities and differences of the 3 most popular world religions. Tim and Moby have taught us a great deal about all religions on BrainPop, students have enjoyed acted out Reader's Theater plays to help solidify understanding (The 7 Chinese Brothers and Million Miser: A Buddhist Tale), as well as continue to create artistic representations to demonstrate our understanding. The conversations among students have been enlightening, as students grapple with new and unusual concepts within world religion, as well as reflect on how they are effected personally.
MATH In math we have spent weeks working on area and surface area and making connections between how they contribute to one another. Students have made 2-dimensional nets that eventually transformed into 3-dimensional models. We have played games, completed task card rotation-stations, utilized IXL, as well as "nets and models" to conceptualize these math concepts. As we move forward, I want students to be able to establish an understanding about the relationships that exist among area and surface area, as well as how they contribute to finding the volume of an object.
SCIENCE Students have been exploring the Water Cycle, as well as the 4 different weather fronts. We also spent time exploring the different cloud types and used a website from NOVA to practice cloud typing. Students have been working diligently on Water Cycle projects and the deadline has been extended to 3/31. Please remember this is a two part project: creation of a water cycle story, as well as a written paragraph to communicate the various stages of the water cycle.
